AIRCRAFT HISTORY
From the time you arrive at the airport to the time you land, you’ll be re-living history in a way that few will ever experience
Military
The Boeing Stearman Model 75 “Kaydet” occupies a unique place in American aviation history. One of the best-known American biplanes and presently the most numerous, the “Stearman” has had four separate and distinct major careers over a span of 60+ years and the end is still not in sight…
Agriculture
The majority of the Stearmans in the late-1940’s were dusters, sprayers and seeders that were the backbone of the agricultural fleet. A small industry developed to support these aircraft by providing dispersal equipment, powerplant and fuselage modification kits, and even re-designed “hi-lift” wings since Boeing was not in a position to supply them.
Air Shows
A handful of re-engined Stearmans found a separate post-war career as air show performers. With the 450 h.p. Pratt & Whitney engine bolted to the front of the airframe, these aircraft had twice the power that they did while they were teaching Army and Navy cadets to fly during the war.
Antiques
In the years immediately following WW II, an old airplane like a pre-war biplane was often something that a person flew as a cheap time-builder or because he couldn’t afford anything better. As a result, many old planes in private hands received only minimum care were left to rot when they became un-airworthy and too expensive to re-license.
